Hey Michael,
— I’m thinking maybe there is a community of us who are in the same sort of boat and have something to offer one another.
I was checking out the web to see if you had a website yet and I came across this AMAZING blog you are writing.
I kind of can’t believe this, but no wonder we got back in touch…I am going through something very similar to what you’re going through right now. I think I mentioned in an email that I was having a spiritual awakening about my relationship to God…I have every urge and intention to surrender my life completely to God and I am in the midst of healing that relationship, trying to understand what it means, and how it co-habitates with other spiritual/religious practices (mediation, paganism) that have meaning for me. I have also been doing that church search thing that you mentioned in your blog. I’m going to walk a labyrinth at the national cathedral on Tuesday night..but am very much in some embryonic stage of everything. I am wondering and maybe coming to think I am some kind of hybrid–like a Christian/Buddhist/pagan or something.
I have been so lucky to have someone to talk to who is amazing–he’s studying to be a spiritual director through the Shalem Institute, which happens to be near me. Do you know about them? My friend/spiritual director is a Christian, but very open-minded–almost seems more of a Godian than anything (saying/acknowledging that God doesn’t care if you’re a Christian)–and the Shalem people seem pretty open-minded too.
He also recommended an author named Cynthia Bourgeault to me–I haven’t read her stuff yet, but maybe you would find it interesting if you haven’t picked it up already (you may have, as you are incredibly well-read).
OK, well, I hope you’re doing well, and enjoying your first weeks of self-employment. And I am SO glad we got back in touch, even if I only hear from you about once every 6 months
much love to you, Dorothy

Awesome, Dorothy — I’m so glad you found me, too. I’m spread out over several blogs and websites now — this is the one where I try to resolve the Christian/Eastern Tradition divide, which seems to be expressed through the Christian idea of salvation on the one side, and the Eastern notion of enlightenment on the other. Figures that you would be doing a similar process of synthesis, as well. Not more 6 months!
